ENDANGERED ANIMALS | One of the 5 Major Problems of our Mother Earth

endangered animals

Each creation of God has it’s own purpose. May we learn to co-exist peacefully in this world without extinguishing a  life from a fellow creation.

Extinction is forever.  It means the dying out of a species of any living thing.  It is the complete disappearance of a species from the Earth. Animals that are endangered are those in immediate danger of becoming extinct if something isn’t done to save them.  Threatened animals and plants are those that are greatly reduced in number in their natural range or ecosystem.

Another way humans are endangering animals is by changing the environment.  Each species has special adaptations suited to its habitat.  If this habitat is quickly changed, the organism may not be able to adapt and so it dies. Look around your neighborhood.  The buildings for house and stores and the parking lots and streets cover land that was once the home of plants and animals.  Those not able to find new food and shelter die out.

Extinction can also come about because of pollution. Again, the source of this problem can be people.  Examples of human caused pollutants that are endangering animals are as follows:

Pesticides are used to get rid of “pest” species, but the poison often harms more than just the pest. Chemicals dumped into waterways not only affect drinking water supplies for people but can also poison birds, fish, plants and other life forms, as well as the animals that eat these organisms. Oil spills in both fresh and marine environments threaten and have long lasting effects on the lives of many species. Polluting gases from the burning of fossil fuels affect all living organisms. Waste that finds its way into oceans, lakes, and ponds can e mistaken by animals as food.  Plastic and other waste items can be deadly to animals.

Glaciers and Mountain Snow Melting

glaciers_melting

One of the major cause of severe flooding experienced by many countries in the world is basically because of the climate change resulted by global warming.

The  3/4 part of the earth is composed of  water and land is ony 1/4 of the whole. If glaciers and mountain snow would continue to melt, how much more land on the earth would remain visible?

As many of you already know glaciers, as well as mountain snow are melting at rapid level due to the global warming phenomenon. But not only are glaciers and mountains snow melting at rapid level but are melting earlier in the year than usual, and this means that large quantities of water will be long gone by the summer time, when rainfall is significantly lower.

There are many areas at risk from water shortage, and this areas include parts of the Middle East, southern Africa, the United States, South America and the Mediterranean. And there is also rapid growth of human population which would mean that there won’t be even enough water to drink, let alone for its use in agriculture and water could become more precious than gold.

And glaciers, which are nature’s water storage facilities are becoming smaller and smaller and in some areas where these small glaciers are main source of drinking water, they could disappear in less then 50 years if current melting levels are about to continue. Such rapid melting will not only cause water scarcity, but will also cause additional problem in form of more frequent flooding.

In some mountains snow cover has completely disappeared in some months when these mountains used to be all white not so long ago, and many basins have drained within the last couple of years. And according to Daniel Viviroli, from the University of Berne in Switzerland, nearly 40 percent of mountainous regions could be at risk, as they provide water to populations that cannot get it elsewhere.

With global warming strengthening its negative impact, and mountains and glaciers melting at faster level and earlier in the year than ever before, water may be serious problem for many parts of the world.

Air Pollution | One of the 5 Major Problems of the Earth

Air pollution is another burning ecological problem. Air pollution comes from variety of different sources like factories, power plants, cars, buses, trucks, wildfires, etc… Air pollution doesn’t only affect air, but also threatens the health of humans, trees and animals and is destroying the ozone layer which protects us from dangerous ultra-violet radiation. Statistically speaking, every day average individual breathes more than 3,000 gallons of air and since many people live in urban areas full of smog this affect their health causing them lot of health problems.

In Beijing alone, where the Olympics is to be held this year, out-door sport are said to be risky due to the bad condition of the air in the said place.

Ocean Pollution | One of the 5 Major Problems of the Earth

Many people aren’t still aware that ocean pollution is a major problem that isn’t only affecting the ocean but the rest of the Earth as well. Ocean pollution directly affects living organisms in ocean and indirectly humans and their health. There are many sources of pollution and the most dangerous is illegal dumping, especially of poisonous materials. This illegal dumping is unfortunately so, wide spread and is causing damage to many plants and animals in the ocean. On top of the food chain we could easily end up eating seafood that was harmed by some toxic materials before it came to our plates. Especially dangerous is the lead which can cause a lot of health problems, especially damaging brain and kidneys. Recycling is the right answer but unfortunately not for all people.

Dumping is the biggest problem but there are other problems as well like wastewater, use of pesticides and other chemicals in agriculture, which you definitely wouldn’t think of right away. Wastewater is a run-off from rainwater that ends up in rivers, lakes and oceans as well. Majority of people still don’t know that this run-off is going into the ocean at daily bases in small amounts which are piling hence creating a major problem. Agriculture is also harmful to the ocean because pesticides and other dangerous chemicals are taken off of the plants and carried to the oceans when it rains.

GLOBAL WARMING

Global warming is the most serious ecological problem, not to mention other ecological problems like air and sea pollution, extinction of many animal species, acid rains and many other. Mother Earth has become very vulnerable and her vulnerable condition makes us vulnerable too. Global warming has already caused serious climate changes, and climate changes together with air pollution are responsible for many diseases and of course deaths.

And although there are so many problems that are already showing their devastating potential, appropriate action is nowhere to be seen. There are some small actions but what is really required is one huge action on global scale that would include most of the world’s population. Small-scaled actions are only good on certain areas and have little or none effect on global situation.

Some scientists say it’s maybe all over as we failed to make the right move at the right time, but it’s still not too late, if not for removing problems then at least to try stopping them from further development. Unfortunately this kind of action is almost impossible since many people still lack ecological awareness thinking only how to satisfy their needs, and not the needs of complete mankind.

Fossil fuels mainly responsible for global warming are still dominant energy source and renewable energy sources are really thing of the future. What future? If this trend continues what kind of future will this be? Do we really have to get ourselves on urge of extinction in order to know what to do next or at least once humanity can react while is still time? Unfortunately humanity doesn’t think enough of future generations as they have right to inherit mother Earth as strong and beautiful mother and not like some old woman who’s days are numbered. We simply don’t have the right to take from our descendants something that belongs to them as much as it belong to us.

Profit and economy are still much more significant in eyes of many than ecology which is to them only something some crazy ecologists blubber about, something that they shouldn’t worried about as they consider themselves supreme beings forgetting that Earth was there long before humans become dominant force on planet.

We should really be guardians of our planet putting our efforts in order to preserve all life on planet and we’re doing complete opposite by not only endangering lots of animal species but endangering our species too.

It is not yet a hopeless case; we could still do something to make our world a better place to live in… It will be good to familiarize our self with the major problems of our ecosystem, so we would be aware, not only of our actions but to what is going on with our surroundings as well.

Problems in Ecosystem Today | Help Save Nature

An ecosystem is a natural unit consisting of all plants, animals and micro-organisms (biotic factors) in an area functioning together with all of the non-living physical (abiotic) factors of the environment.

The term ecosystem was coined in 1930 by Roy Clapham, to denote the physical and biological components of an environment considered in relation to each other as a unit. British ecologist Arthur Tansley later refined the term, describing it as the interactive system established between biocoenosis (a group of living creatures) and their biotope (the environment in which they live). ECOLOGICAL PROBLEMS

Ecology was word that was never taken quite seriously as many people still think that ecologists and scientists are only scaring people when they talk about ecological problems. If only this would be true. But unfortunately reality is something completely different as now we must face with more ecological problems than at any time in human history.
